Zoran Djindjic's commemoration

BELGRADE - Serbian government officials laid in the centre of Belgrade on Wednesday a wreath at the commemorative plaque dedicated to Serbia's assassinated Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, with members of Djindjic's government, citizens and party associates also there to pay their respects.

The government officials who were at the event were: Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Minister of Finance Lazar Krstic, Minister of Sport Vanja Udovicic, Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic, Minister of Energy Zorana Mihajlovic, Education Minister Tomislav Jovanovic, Health Minister Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic, Minister of Culture Ivan Tasovac and Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamocic.

Djindjic, who was also the leader of the Democratic Party, was assassinated in 2003, and the anniversary of that event will be marked on Wednesday with a series of events organized by political parties and non-party entities.

Djindjic's family, friends and colleagues, together with regular citizens, paid their respects to the assassinated prime minister by laying wreaths and flowers at his tomb located in Belgrade's New Cemetery section reserved for distinguished citizens.
The Democratic Party delegation was led by head of the party Dragan Djilas, who laid a wreath together with Djindjic's widow Ruzica.

Former leader of the Democratic Party Boris Tadic also laid a wreath at Djindjic's grave, as did members of the party Together for Serbia, led by their president, Dusan Petrovic.

Djindjic was the first Serbian prime minister since the fall of the Slobodan Milosevic regime in 2000, and since the Democratic Opposition of Serbia came to power.
