Over 7,000 changes since submission of electoral roll

BELGRADE -- The Ministry of Justice has made over 7,000 changes in the unified electoral roll in the period from its conclusion on February 28 at midnight to March 13.

The information was delivered within the presentation to the members of the OSCE Mission who had a chance to learn more about the manner of administration and updating of the unified electoral roll managed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.

According to the release issued by the Ministry, Serbian State Secretary Gordana Stamenić and Assistant Minister of Justice and Public Administration Igor Todoroski conferred with representatives of the OSCE Limited Election Observation Mission which will monitor the early parliamentary elections on Sunday.

Todoroski said that in keeping with the Law on the unified electoral roll, names and surnames of voters who are members of national minorities are entered first in the Cyrillic script and according to the spelling rules of the Serbian language and are then registered in the script and according to the spelling rules of the individual's national minority.

Stamenić thanked the OSCE mission on the visit and underscored that the Justice Ministry invested major efforts to ensure that the electoral roll contains correct data on voters.

After the meeting, the Mission representatives expressed satisfaction with the presentation and explanations concerning the manner of data entry for voters who are members of national minorities.
