Considerable gains after six sessions of stock decline


Stocks had already begun to inch up during Tuesday’s bourse session even before news of the agreement to reduce natural gas rates was made public. The deal gave the benchmark index a final push to rise above the 1,260-point level, on increased trading.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,261.92 points, adding 3.48 percent to Monday’s 1,219.43 points after six sessions of decline. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded by 3.51 percent to 408.58 points, as all blue chips enjoyed a rise.

Titan cement outperformed as it grew by 6.93 percent, OTE telecom climbed by 6.64 percent, Public Power Corporation increased by 5.71 percent and Folli Follie rose by 5.34 percent.

In total 101 stocks recorded gains, 34 suffered losses and 27 stayed unchanged.

Turnover was the highest of the last 10 sessions, amounting to 84.1 million euros, up from Monday’s 58.1 million.
