Dacic: Settle historical accounts, not politicise process
BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday that it would be positive for the proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague to be brought to an end so as to settle historical accounts and close the past, adding that it is up to serious politicians to make sure that the proceedings are not politicised.
“It is good for the proceedings to be brought to an end and for international justice bodies to issue their opinion,” Dacic told reporters in the Police Academy.
He underscored that politicians must not allow the proceedings to be politicised so as to avoid further complications of relations between Serbia and Croatia which can only happen in case accounts of the evidence presentation is published in the media.
Dacic also pointed to the possibility of the upsurge of nationalist passions.
The prime minister noted that Serbia was willing to withdraw the suit and solve the problem through an out-of-court agreement but this did not happen.
Serbia is willing to refute the claims included in the Croatian suit and it has prepared its suit, the prime minister said and added that whatever happened, this should put an end to the past and the proceedings are perhaps the right way to do it.
