Dacic: Willing to discuss government with SNS

BELGRADE - Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic, whose party ran in the parliamentary election on Sunday in a coalition with the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia and United Serbia, said on Sunday the coalition had won a significant number of votes, and that he was willing to discuss forming the next government with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), who won the election, should the SNS invite the SPS to such talks.

Dacic congratulated SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic on the victory and said the shape of the next government would be up to the SNS alone.

The election on Sunday was a great success for the SNS and a complete disaster for the opposition parties, he stated.

"Our coalition achieved what we see as a historically very important result, which strengthens our position. If he had not had a clear political agenda, clear views and a good campaign, we would have fared the same as the other parties," he said, adding that it was not important whether the SPS had won 14 or 15 percent.

Dacic, who is the prime minister in the outgoing government, said the result of the election was satisfying and proved the value of the political agenda the government coalition had run so far.

He expects the next government to continue the reforms and the country's EU integration.
