Government Considers Introduction of Mandatory Labels in Bulgarian

Bulgaria's Government is considering the introduction of mandatory inscriptions in Bulgarian on the packaging of imported goods. 

Currently the labels and instruction manuals in Bulgarian are also mandatory, but some of the goods have additional Bulgarian labels, pasted on the package.

In an interview for the “Trud” daily newspaper, the Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoinev said this is one of the measures for protecting the local producers and goods and encouraging their consumption. 

“Of course we must observe the European requirements, but we must find a way to protect the Bulgarian production and stop the unregulated imports, which undercut the market,” Stoinev said. “Let us think how the state can initiate and champion a campaign for encouraging the consumption of Bulgarian goods.”
