OAED launches 54-mln scheme to help create 10,000 new jobs


The Greek Manpower Organization (OAED) announced on Monday the launch of a subsidized program for businesses to hire a total of 10,000 unemployed Greeks.

OAED said that companies would be able to submit their applications from March 21. The program, which runs to 54 million euros, is co-financed by the European Social Fund.

Those hired will receive 18 euros a day (450 euros per month) for a maximum of 12 months. Nationals from other European Union countries living in Greece can also be hired through the program.

Greece’s unemployment rate reached 27.5 percent at the end of 2013.
