Canak: LSV will insist on Vojvodina's powers

NOVI SAD- The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) will continue to insist that the Autonomous Province (AP) of Vojvodina be given back its legislative, judicial and executive powers, said LSV leader Nenad Canak in talks with Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport.

Canak also noted that the LSV will insist on Vojvodina's right to property and revenues, as well as that all these rights be guaranteed by a new constitution of Serbia, the LSV announced.

Canak talked with Davenport at the LSV headquarters in Novi Sad and informed him about the current political situation, the release reads.

He then announced that the LSV priorities in the coming period will be the fight for proportionate development and job creation in all parts of Vojvodina, as well as the fight for greater security, a higher natural resource rent and better position of Vojvodina's farmers, pregnant women and pensioners.

The Constitutional Court of Serbia ascertained that 40 percent of the provisions of the Statute of AP Vojvodina are in contravention of the Constitution of Serbia and the law on the province's competences.

The Court ordered that the Statute be harmonized with the Constitution within the six-month timeframe that expires on June 6.
