Djilas: I will not resign

BELGRADE - Leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Dragan Djilas said on Monday that he will not resign from his position, and pointed to the obligation envisaged in the party Statute of holding an election assembly to vote for a new leadership following a national level election.

"In the meeting of the Main Board on Sunday a decision will be made regarding the date of the election assembly and the manner of election, and I expect it to be held by June,” said Djilas.

He said that the party's election result of six percent of votes in the local poll on March 16 was extremely bad.

"It is clear that without the support of Belgraders who voted for the DS the party would have stayed below the threshold," Djilas said, adding that the DS will remain in the opposition.
