Zeman visits tire factory in Ruma
RUMA - President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman, accompanied by president of the Vojvodina government Bojan Pajtic, visited on Wednesday the Ruma-based agricultural and industrial tire factory, one of the key production facilities of the Czech Mitas company, which manufactures over 16,200 tons of tires annually and employs around 550 people.
Zeman emphasized that he is very glad to hear that the Mitas plant employed more than 500 people, noting that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic informed him that the unemployment rate in Serbia stands at 26 per cent.
This was the Czech president's second visit to the Mitas plant, during which he also voiced satisfaction over the fact that the average salary paid in the plant exceeds the Vojvodina average.
Bojan Pajtic, President Zeman's host on his visit to Vojvodina, stressed that the MItas factory in Ruma is “the crown of good relations between Serbia, that is, Vojvodina and the Czech Republic.”
He noted that in 2008, when Mitas took over the tire factory in Ruma, the province provided subsidies for 200 employees as well as other necessary conditions to expand the production.
The tire factory has increased production by 30 per cent over the past three years, said Pajtic.
The arrival of Mitas is an invitation to investors not only from the Czech Republic but also from other countries to come to Vojvodina, stressed Pajtic, noting that the Czech community in Vojvodina is not a large one, but has great significance for the relations between the two countries.
