USD 2.3 million for enhancing of public finance

BELGRADE - The Strengthening Accountability Mechanism in Public Finance project amounting to USD 2.3 million will be implemented in Serbia in the next two years.

The main objectives of the program are prevention of the misuse of public funds and enhancement of transparency of the process.

The program is implemented by the Serbian institutions with the help of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financed by the Swedish government.

National Audit Institution President Radoslav Sretenovic said that the budget for the institution amounts to USD 471,000.

The funds will be used for certification of national auditors and analyses of laws in this area, and the project will offer support in drafting of the methodology for auditing the financing of political parties, Sretenovic said at a ceremony that followed the signing of the project.

Sretenovic said that special software licenses will be purchased for auditing of computer data.

Swedish Ambassador to Serbia Christer Asp said that the Swedish government has been offering financial support to different projects in Serbia for years, adding that Sweden is the third greatest donor in Serbia.

The Swedish government has adopted a new results strategy for development cooperation with Serbia for the next seven-year period, Ambassador Asp said.

Public Procurement Office Director Predrag Jovanovic said that the goal of the programme is to eradicate the irregularities in the sphere of public finance and public procurement as one of its segments.
