Vucic congratulates Orban on commanding victory
BELGRADE - Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic congratulated Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the landslide victory the Fidesz party achieved in Hungary's parliamentary elections on Sunday, Vucic's office said in a release on Monday.
“It is particularly significant that both in Serbia and in Hungary, the two neighboring and friendly countries, the ruling parties have gained tremendous voter support that gave them a clear mandate to continue the reforms they had put in place,” Vucic said.
The trust that the citizens placed in the ruling parties is a huge commitment and responsibility, he added.
“Relations between Serbia and Hungary are improving and I am confident that the cooperation will continue to develop to our mutual benefit and in the interest of peace and stability in the region. Seeing things in that light, I think it is of particular importance for us the hold the planned joint session of the two governments as soon as possible,” Vucic said in his congratulatory message to Orban.
With 96.92 percent of the votes counted, Fidesz is on course to win 44.31 percent of the vote or 133 seats in the 199-seat parliament.
