Germany's Inflation Hits Record Low Rates in March

EU harmonized inflation in Germany has dropped to its lowest level in more than three years in March, 2014, final data from the Federal Statistical Office Destatis showed Friday.

In European harmonized terms, prices increased 0.3% in March, but rose only by 0.9% on annual basis. In February, prices advanced by 1%. The last time inflation in Europe’s largest economy saw such low rates was in June 2010.

The consumer price index increased by 1% annually in March, after a 1.2% climb in February. The latest inflation rate is the lowest since August 2010. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3%.

Wholesale trade prices decreased by 1.7% in March on an annual basis, after dropping 1.8% in February and 1.7% in January. From February to March, wholesale prices remained unchanged.

The final data confirms the preliminary estimates of the Statistical Office from end-March.
