Belgian dance company closes Belgrade Dance Festival

BELGRADE - The Belgian dance company of Michele Noiret and their performance entitled 'Minutes Opportunes' in Madlenianum Opera and Theatre closed late on Monday the eleventh edition of the Belgrade Dance Festival (BDF) which presented 11 world's best dance companies.

The festival under the slogan "The incredible storytelling power of the human body" featured 13 performances in Belgrade and one in Novi Sad, Pancevo and Vrsac each which gathered over 17,000 viewers and the accompanying programmes, including film displays in the Yugoslav Film Archive and a number of workshops, were followed by 1,000 participants.

One of the best European dance festivals is well into its second decade of existence. During the event, the fourth “Vip is Inviting” Award was delivered to Gradimir Pankov, art director of the Great Canadian Ballet of Montreal.

The festival was followed by around 120 accredited reporters from the country and abroad, directors of a number of foreign festivals, as well as producers, agents and theatre directors.

According to BDF director Aja Jung, foreign guests demonstrated greatest interest in 'Wisteria Maiden', the world premiere by dance troupe of Andonis Foniadakis.

The audience of the 11th BDF had a chance to enjoy the performances staged by international companies including Hubbard Street Dance from Chicago, Shaun Parker from Sydney, Zimmermann and de Perrot of Zurich, Malka of Grenoble, Akram Khan from London and Roberto Zappala from Sicily.

The festival participants also included Les Grands Ballets Canadiens of Montreal, Ballet Augsburg of Germany, world-famous choreographers Mathilde Monier from Montpellier and La Ribot of Geneva.
