PayPal delegation visits Serbia in May

SUBOTICA - Serbia's State Secretary for Trade and Telecommunications Stefan Lazarevic has said that PayPal could soon allow reception of payments from abroad in Serbia.

A PayPal delegation will visit Serbia in May to discuss a solution for receiving money through this company's service in Serbia, Lazarevic said ahead of the opening of the 14th international conference on e-business called E-Trade and held in Palic.

The reforms of the regulations in the past several years have resulted in PayPal's arrival in Serbia, but the only option available at the moment is "send," or payment, he noted.

"I am an optimist regarding their visit and I hope that the issue with receiving money over the Internet by using this service will be resolved," he pointed out.

Serbia has to continue improving its regulations related to e-business in order to better the environment for it, he said.

A law on information security is being drafted, he stated, adding that the document should improve the security of information in Serbia.

The E-Trade conference is very important for its promotional and educational character, he believes.

There has been visible and great progress in Serbia regarding e-business, because the number of people buying goods and services on the Internet has been growing year after year, he remarked.

Around 900,000 people made purchases on the Internet last year, which was a large increase compared to 2012, when the number was 600,000, he said.

"It indicates that the environment for the development of e-business is improving in Serbia," Lazarevic told reporters.
