Dacic: SPS ready to be part of parliament majority

BELGRADE - Leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dacic informed Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Thursday that the party is ready to be part of the parliament majority.

Representatives of the SPS-led coalition, which also includes the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) and the United Serbia (JS), had consultations with President Nikolic on the constitution of the new Serbian government.

As Dacic told reporters after the meeting, the delegation led by SPS informed Nikolic about the talks with the Serbian Progressive Party and its leader Aleksandar Vucic.

SPS leader said that the topics did not include any individual candidates, that is, the matter of whether or not he will be the only member of the new government from the SPS-led coalition.

Dacic informed Nikolic that he will propose to the party bodies for SPS to be part of the parliament majority.

He said that the matter will be discussed by SPS Presidency on Thursday and by the Main Board after the holidays, when the party bodies of PUPS and JS are also to make their decision about joining the government.

In reply to a reporter's question, Dacic said that the entire coalition participates in the agreement and that, if this agreement is reached, he will certainly not be the only member to join the new government.

He pointed out that the delegation of SPS-PUPS-JS had only one question for the future prime minister-designate Vucic - how can they help.

"It would be an offense to the people of Serbia, the majority of which voted for SNS and its leader, if we would present Vucic with ultimatums. That is not how we work," Dacic said.
