Court: Miskovic without passport for another three months

BELGRADE - The Belgrade Special Court extended the passport seizure measure in the case of Delta Holding owner Miroslav Miskovic for another three months.

The court denied the appeal of the defence team which asked for Miskovic to be granted back his passport permanently and for the ban on him leaving his place of residence to be lifted.

The Delta Holding owner has the right to appeal the decision of the chair of the Belgrade Special Court Trial Chamber to the Belgrade Appellate Court, the Court spokesperson Dusica Ristic told Tanjug.

She specified that the chamber chair decided to reject the proposition put forth by Miskovic's lawyer for the ban on defendant leaving his place of residence to be lifted and for his passport to be returned to him.

Miskovic's passport was seized and a ban was pronounced on him leaving his place of residence on July 23, 2013, when he was released pending trial on a EUR 12 million bail with guarantees that he will not try to escape.

Since he was released from prison, the Delta Holding owner addressed the Court on three occasions asking for his passport to be returned and for himself to be allowed to travel abroad to meet with his business partners.

The Court granted Miskovic one trip abroad in December 2013 only and returned his passport for this occasion temporarily, but in January and February it rejected his requests for trips to the Netherlands and Italy.

During the trial, Miskovic called on the Court to return his passport on several occasions, noting that he owns several companies abroad, which is why the passport is essential to his work.

The trial against Miskovic for abuse in the case of road maintenance companies will continue in May.
