Cabinet holds commemorative session

BELGRADE -- The Serbian government has held a commemorative session for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Policy Jovan Krkobabić.

Krkobabić passed away on Tuesday, at the age of 84.

The government has established a committee to organize Krkobabić's funeral, said a statement from the government press office, adding that the committee will be headed by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić.

Krkobabić died in Belgrade on Tuesday after a serious illness, Tanjug learned from the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS).

He was the president of the PUPS, which he became shortly after the party was founded in 2006.

After the May 2008 elections, the PUPS, which ran in a coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia and United Serbia, became a parliamentary party and Krkobabić was elected deputy prime minister.

In the government that was formed in 2012, he was a deputy prime minister and the minister of labor, employment and social policy.

He was also the president of the Association of Pensioners of Serbia since 1996.
