Nikolic: Serbia obliged to care about preservation of RS
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said Thursday that Serbia will make no such moves as could destabilize Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) but it has an obligation under the Dayton Accord to care about the preservation of Republika Srpska (RS).
“Serbia is no doubt aware that reconciliation must take place in the region. Still, one must bear in mind that elections are to held in BiH soon and in pre-election campaigns politicians are presenting themselves as protectors of their nation in relation to the other two (constituent nations in BiH). When the spotlight is off they cooperate very well, and some of them are even close friends,” Nikolic said on his Twitter account.
The Serbian president said he cannot tell why the friendship they share cannot be passed on to the people.
“Serbia will not do anything to destabilize BiH, but it cannot help much either, as it has an obligation to care about the preservation of Republika Srpska as stipulated by the Dayton Accord,” Nikolic said.
BiH should see general elections taking place in October.
