Exhibition of portraits of theatre and film authors opens
BELGRADE - An exhibition of photographic portraits of theatre and film authors by Mitar Trninic, one of Serbia's best photographic artists, has opened at Galerija 73.
As the third exhibition in Trninic's series titled Explorers, it includes portraits of 34 top artists who created theatrical plays and films over the past four years, and will be open until May 6.
One of the few photographic artists who exclusively use black-and-white cameras, Trninic leaves an authentic testimony of Serbian theatre and film authors with his selection of scenography, lighting, postures and the people he photographed.
His selection for this exhibition includes only three photographs made in the 1980s - one shows actor Zarko Lausevic, who was at the very beginning of his career at the time, while the other two were taken on the set of the cult film Petria's Wreath.
In a statement to Tanjug, Trninic said that he made the photographs for the credits and posters for the film by imitating rural photographers and the way they used to photograph weddings.
Belgrade-born Trninic, 66, graduated from the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague in 1975 under the guidance of professor Jan Smok and until recently worked as a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.
