Famous football player Vujadin Boskov dies

NOVI SAD - Former football player Vujadin Boskov, who left a great mark in Serbian and Yugoslav football, died in Novi Sad on Sunday aged 83 after a long and serious illness, his family has stated.

Boskov played 57 matches for the Yugoslav national team and was regarded highly as a coach by many Serbian and foreign clubs. He also coached the national team.

He began his career as a player in Vojvodina in 1946 and stayed with the team until 1960, when he transferred to Sampdoria, 1961-1962, and ultimately Young Boys from Switzerland, 1962-1964, where he eventually started his coaching career.

Boskov was a world-famous coach. He led Vojvodina for 7 years and a large number of clubs from the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, including Real Madrid (1979-1982), Feyenoord (1976-1978), Roma (1992-1993) and Sampdoria on two occasions.

He won the Yugoslav and Spanish leagues and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1990.

Boskovi coached the Yugoslav national team on three occasions, 1971-1973, 1999-2000 and in 2001.
