Vojvodina Assembly to debate on draft Statute on May 14

NOVI SAD - Session of the Vojvodina Assembly dedicated to the debate on the draft Statute of the northern Serbian province, is scheduled for May 14, Vojvodina government's Public Relations Bureau released on Friday.

The Assembly's Committee on Issues of Constitutional and Legal Status of the Province adopted on Thursday the final version of the draft Statute, in accordance with a prior ruling of the Constitutional Court of Serbia, and this document will be brought before MPs of the provincial parliament.

The Statute needs to be adopted by two thirds of MPs in the Vojvodina Assembly in order to be referred to the parliament of Serbia for discussion, after which it will be returned to the provincial parliament for final adoption.

The Constitutional Court of Serbia set June 6 as the deadline for adoption of the new Statute of Vojvodina, which must be brought in line with the Constitution of Serbia.
