NIS – An Ilyushin II-76 plane of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations carrying 70 rescuers landed at the airport in Nis, southern Serbia, on Friday morning.
Pursuant to a decision by the Russian government made on a request by the flood-hit Republic of Serbia, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations sent the rescuers to help the Serbian people, the Russian ministry said in a release on its website this morning.
“The Ministry’s Ilyushin Il-76 plane took off from the Ramenskoye airport. There are over 70 highest trained rescuers, necessary cutting-edge rescue equipment, including wet suits, diving and specialized gears, and power boats aboard the plane,” the Russian ministry said.
The Russian team has everything needed for search and rescue operations in the flooded areas and is ready to operate autonomously for 15 days.
