European Commissioner delivers aid to Interior Ministry
BELGRADE - European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva delivered in Belgrade on Wednesday to the Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic the aid in the fight against floods.
Georgieva visited the Centre for Emergency Situations and delivered generators, mobile units for lighting the field with diesel generator and lighting fittings, showers for emergency - for disinfection and water heaters, which were donated by EULEX.
Moreover, a helicopter was put on the disposal of the citizens in the affected areas, she said.
The European Commission is impressed by the efficient reaction of the Serbian authorities and the Ministry of the Interior, and we are proud that we can stand by you in these difficult days, Georgieva said.
She thanked EULEX on a speedy and operational response.
Stefanovic expressed gratitude to the European Commission for the donation, adding that the generators will provide electricity to more than 1,000 households.
The generators will also contribute to a better functioning of towns and villages that remained completely without power supply, he said.
Previously, Georgieva visited Obrenovac together with Stefanovic, where she could see the consequences of floods that are still present in the greater part of this Belgrade municipality.
