Over 60 pct of Romanians say country protected by NATO member's status (survey)

60.2 percent of Romanians say the country is protected in the event of a conflict in the region by its NATO member's status, while 49.3 percent agree with an increase in the defence spending, shows an INSCOP pollsters survey made public on Thursday.

On the other hand, 25.5 percent of the respondents believe that Romania's being a NATO member does not help the country and 14.3 percent did not know how to answer or did not answer.

The survey reveals that although nearly half the Romanians agree with an increase in the defence budget, 33 percent do not agree and 17.4 percent did not know how to answer or did not answer.

According to INSCOP, 29.5 percent of the polled declare themselves very worried and 32.4 percent worried about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Little worried are 24.7 percent of the surveyed, while 11 percent are not at all worried. Another 0.8 percent say they have not heard of the conflict and 1.6 percent do not know / do not answer.

As for the Romanian-Russian relations, 44.9 percent of the polled say they will stay the same in the upcoming period, 31.6 percent think the relations will get worse and 9 percent say they will get better. 14.5 percent of respondents did not know or did not answer.

The INSCOP Research survey was commissioned by Adevarul daily and was conducted over May 1-7. The maximum admitted error of the survey data is plus or minus 3 percent at 95 percent reliability. The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,056 persons and it is representative for the Romanian population aged 18 and over 18.AGERPRES
