Algerian ambassador: No Africa Day, money to be used as aid

BELGRADE – Africa Day will not be held in Serbia this year as the money that should have been used to organize the event will be redirected to help the people badly hit by the recent floods in the country, Algerian Ambassador to Serbia Abdelkader Mesdoua said Friday.

The African cultural event, which has been held annually at the Museum of African Art in Belgrade for many years, and was scheduled to take place on May 26, has been cancelled to help the endangered population, Mesdoua told a press conference.

Besides giving the money, the museum also launched an aid collection campaign.
