Polling stations open; over 18,000,000 voters expected at the ballot box
More than 18,000 polling stations nationwide have opened today in Romania at 07:00hrs, EEST, for the European elections.
As many as 18,226,995 voters are expected at the ballot box, with the vote process to end at 21:00hrs, EEST.
For the European elections, there are 18,532 polling stations in Romania, while Romanian nationals abroad can cast their ballots at 190 stations.
In Bucharest, there are 1,245 de polling stations: 162 in District 1, 202 in District 2, 274 in District 3, 178 in District 4, 196 in District 5, and 233 in District 6.
The voters who on election day are in the place of their domicile, they will cast their ballots at the polling stations where they are registered on the permanent voter files. The voters who on election day are not in the place of their domicile may choose any polling stations as they will be recorded on additional voter files.
The Romanian citizens with a domicile in Romania will vote at the polling stations in the country upon presentation of an identity document — identity card, electronic identity card, provisional identity card, identity book, diplomatic passport, electronic diplomatic passport, service passport, electronic service passport or military service card, in the case of military students, as appropriate.
Voters held under a preventive arrest warrant for the service of freedom abridging sentences that does not entail banning from voting will cast their ballots in a special box.
The special box will also gather the votes of people unable to move because of illness or invalidity.
Also today, at 07:00hrs, EEST, polling stations have opened in eight vacant parliamentary colleges and where special local elections are held
