Nikcevic, Hucheng discuss Belgrade-Budapest rail line

NINGBO – The state secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Stevan Nikcevic has met with Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng to discuss a project aimed at modernising the rail line from Belgrade to Budapest that could be worth over EUR 1 billion, the Serbian ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Nikcevic, who also attended a two-day conference in the Chinese city of Ningbo on economic cooperation between China and 16 countries of central and eastern Europe, discussed with the Chinese minister the implementation of Chinese infrastructure and energy projects that are under way in Serbia.

Nikcevic said that implementing the project would significantly improve the quality of rail transport and also boost transit revenues in Serbia and Hungary.

A fair of goods from the 16 central and eastern European countries opened in Ningbo on Sunday, and was also attended by a Serbian business delegation organised by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ministry said in the statement.
