Maric gets Contribution of Year Award for 2014
BELGRADE - Assistant minister and head of the sector for emergency situations of the Serbian Interior Ministry Predrag Maric has received the Contribution of the Year Award for 2014 from the European Movement in Serbia.
Maric got the award because of his professional, timely and selfless efforts to protect the lives of the people in emergency situations, the movement stated.
"The significance of these issues was demonstrated during the recent floods of dramatic proportions," last year's recipient Jelica Minic said reaing the argumentation for the award.
Maric insisted on including the civil society in formulating the legal framework and standards concerning emergencies, both through the National Convention on the EU and in public debates on strategies and laws related to emergency situations, according to the statement.
"He always stressed the importance of prevention and the need to invest in and improve the protection and rescue system for emergencies. He supported through his work everything that is the mission of the European Movement in Serbia," the statement says.
Maric's composure, accessibility and authority in crises is another proof of his dedication and professionalism, the movement pointed out.
"During the announced downsizing of the government administration, we should not lose the professionals whose resumes qualify them for complex jobs that are important both for the people and Serbia's EU integration," the statement reads.
The Contribution of the Year Award was established by the European Movement in Serbia and the International European Movement in 2002.
There have been 16 recipients so far.
