Vucic discusses post-flood rehabilitation with officials

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic met with the presidents of 40 municipalities on Monday to discuss the progress of rehabilitation efforts in the wake of the recent floods, as well as further measures.

Quick and efficient rehabilitation includes reconstructing housing facilities, repairing the road, rail and public utility infrastructures, reviving the agriculture and renovating public buildings (hospitals, schools and post offices), as well as maintaining the stability of the electric power system, Vucic said.

The prime minister, government ministers and the presidents of the municipalities discussed the activities carried out so far to rehabilitate the flood-hit areas, as well as priority measures that need to be taken, the government press office said in a statement.

Vucic announced that the government will this week adopt a report on the authorities' activities during the floods and table it to the parliament, as well as a bill on remedying the consequences to the flood-hit cities and municipalities in Serbia.

The ministers have prepared action plans for remedying the consequences of the floods in coordination with the government Office for reconstruction and aid for flood-hit regions.

The municipal presidents praised the government's efforts to rebuild the flood-hit regions as soon as possible.
