Aigner: Serbia-Austria relations excellent

BELGRADE - The relations between Serbia and Austria are excellent and the intense exchange of visits of the two countries' officials shows that the countries are closely connected in all areas, Austrian Ambassador in Serbia Johannes Eigner said.

The Austrian Embassy in Belgrade organised the Open Door Day on Tuesday and the diplomatic representative office presented its mission.

Eigner explained that this event is the outcome of an initiative of the EU Delegation in Belgrade for the embassies of member countries to organise the Open Door Day in the course of May and June, adding that this is the first event of the kind.

According to him, the initiative is positive as it aims to show that the embassies are not closed, half-secret institutions and that they are instead open for Serbian citizens and that their diplomats are willing to meet and talk with citizens.

Eigner stated that this action came across positive reactions and that it should become traditional.

The visitors of the Embassy had a chance to try the traditional Vienna desserts such as the world-famous Sacher-Torte and the Carinthian Reindling made by Eigner personally.

Eigner noted that since the first day of his mandate as the ambassador, he had a chance to see just how positive the attitude of Serbs toward Austria is and that he witnessed this hospitality on a number of occasions as he travelled around Serbia.

Eigner told Tanjug that the two countries' relations are marked by exchange of visits by politicians, which have become increasingly frequent of late, and that the bilateral ties are excellent.
