George Maior elected honorary president of Academy of Military Science

Head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior was elected honorary president of the Academy of Military Science at an event held on Thursday at the Victoria Palace of Government and chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea - Minister of Internal Affairs, informs a release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"The concepts of geopolitics, geostrategy, strategic studies are being debated and presented in universities of international prestige. It's true that we too have a tradition in the area, but we must adjust to such standards, the more so as today's world is complex. Society needs research that is relevant to national security, to the strategic national interest. The Academy of Military Science is a forum in the works which must contribute to these debates and give them an academic dimension, this is why I say that in me you will find a partner for fulfilling this mission as long as the standards I was talking about are maintained," George Maior said on the occasion.

Gheorghe Toma, vice-rector of the 'Mihai Viteazul' National Intelligence Academy was elected acting president of the institution.

The event taking place at the government headquarters represents a first step towards establishing the leading structures of the Academy of Military Science, which was set up according to the law as a public institution of national interest tasked with conducting scientific research in the system of defence, public order and national security. The Academy is coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence and the Romanian Intelligence Service, the cited source adds.
