Prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice have begun criminal investigations for fraud and forgery against Radu Pricop, son-in-law of President Traian Basescu. According to the Press Bureau of the General Prosecutor's Office, on May 26, 2014, prosecutors begun criminal investigations of several suspects, among them Radu Pricop, for committing the felonies of fraud and forgery of documents under private signature, in a case pertaining to the restitution of some lands. The press reported that Pricop, together with other persons, bought the inheritance rights for a tract of land from descendants of the Bratianu family. After winning several trials against the Romanian state, Radu Pricop and his partners garnered damages worth 10 million euro from the National Agency for the Restitution of Property, using false documents, journalists say. Ioana Basescu, the President's eldest daughter, married lawyer Radu Pricop at the beginning of June.
