Djuric: IDPs are one of government priorities
BELGRADE - Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) Marko Djuric met with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration Simon Henshaw and informed him that IDPs from the province and refugees rank high on the list of the Serbian government priorities.
According to a release issued by the Office for KiM, Djuric said that unsolved property issues and security have the greatest impact on the return of IDPs.
He added that the ongoing political process aims to improve the living conditions for all citizens in KiM and should also facilitate the return for IDPs who want to go back to their homes.
Henshaw said that the U.S. Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration is already realising two separate programmes in the region, one of which is aimed at provision of assistance for tackling legal issues of potential returnees and the other aims to assist IDPs who decide to stay in the place of their current residence in terms of integration in the local community and relying on their own resources in the future.
