Illusion that Saric was in Montenegro maintained for years
PODGORICA - The illusion that drug lord Darko Saric was hiding in Montenegro was maintained for years by someone in Serbia, Serbian Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic said on Monday.
"I will not go into speculations about why and with what intention this was done. The fact that he has been brought to justice before Serbian judicial authorities has demonstrated that many stories had absolutely nothing to do with the truth," the minister noted, responding to reporters' questions after a meeting with his Montenegrin counterpart Dusko Markovic in Podgorica.
The investigation authorities will do their job and the results of the investigation will show whether Saric had any links with Montenegro, he said.
"I trust the investigation authorities in Serbia and Montenegro. I have had good experiences collaborating with them and I am confident that, in this case, too, they will deliver the same results as they have up to now, one of those results being Darko Saric's arrest," said Selakovic, who is on a two-day official visit to Montenegro.
Pljevlja-born Darko Saric surrendered himself to the Serbian authorities on March 18 after four and a half years in hiding.
He is being tried in Belgrade for smuggling 5.7 tons of cocaine from Latin America to Western Europe.
