Bulgaria's Parliament Cancels Session as GERB, Ataka Refuse to Attend
Today's plenary session has been canceled due to a lack of quorum as Bulgaria's opposition party GERB refused to register in Parliament once again.
A total of 106 MPs from Bulgaria's Socialist Party and from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) attended Friday's session. After not reaching a quorum, the Parliament speaker Mihail Mikov announced that the next session will be held on July 10, BGNES reports.
On Thursday, GERB MPs claimed they would only take part in parliamentary sessions if Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski's cabinet steps down. GERB is the second party to boycott Parliament after the far-right Ataka refused to work within the current national assembly.
Such a parliamentary boycott will cost Bulgarian tax payers nearly BGN 2M, Trud Daily claims.
