Nishimura: Japan stands ready to help Serbia after floods

BELGRADE – Japanese Senior Vice-Minister in charge of disaster management Yasutoshi Nishimura said during a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic Wednesday that Japan stood ready to participate in a donors' conference in Brussels on July 16 and to extend considerable technical assistance to Serbia’s sector managing natural disasters.

Receiving Nishimura today, Dacic thanked him for the assistance coming from the Japanese government and people after a catastrophic flooding hit Serbia in May.

Dacic expressed the hope that friendly Japan would act in the same spirit at the forthcoming donor conference and reiterated Serbia’s gratitude for the humanitarian, developmental and technical aid that Japan had sent to our country to date, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a release.

The Japanese official expressed gratitude for the solidarity expressed by the Serbian people and the government after a massive earthquake struck Japan in 2011.

Both sides have expressed interest in the promotion of overall bilateral relations and cooperation, especially in economy, and stressed the importance of intensifying political dialogue and interaction at all levels.
