Sofia-Varna Rapid Train Derails Near Stara Zagora

A train on the route Sofia - Varna derailed at the Kaloyanovets train station, near Stara Zagora, reports the Interior Ministry on its website.

Ambulances, police and fire brigades are en route to the accident site.

According to the online edition of Standart daily, four carriages derailed, one man died and at least ten passengers are wounded.

According to the website Starazagora.net, the victim was one of the train drivers. The site quotes witnesses who claim the engine "flew into the fields and three carriages fell onto the side".

The other passengers were taken by bus to Stara Zagora.

bTV reports that the wounded are 14, but their lives are not in danger.

The initial reports were that the train was travelling from Sofia to Burgas.

Investigation for the cause of the accident is underway.
