Support for government amendments to labor law

BELGRADE - The Serbian Chamber of Commerce expressed on Monday the support for the government's amendments to the labor law, describing them as a significant step forward in establishing the regulatory framework in the field of industrial relations that corresponds to the prevailing business conditions.

The proposed law, together with other laws from the reform package, will contribute to creating an environment that would be foreseeable and conducive to business and investments in Serbia, the PKS noted.

The PKS believes that the existing law was not functional and flexible, not tailored to meet the needs of either workers or employers, the domestic economy or foreign investors.

Instead of that, we will get a new modern law, into which compromise solutions have also been built, but which, nevertheless, is a major step forward and solid foundation for further improvement in the legislation in this field, the release notes.

The PKS called on all actors on Serbia's economic and political stage to achieve a general consensus on passing and enforcing the reform laws and carrying out the reforms necessary for Serbia's economic recovery and growth.

The Serbian Association of Managers (SAM) also backed the Serbian government in the process of reforming the labor legislation.

SAM is not a member of the Social and Economic Council, but has been engaged in the work of the team tasked with drafting amendments to the labor law and believes that the adoption of the proposed changes are important for improving the business environment in the country.
