ForMin Corlatean appreciates Butcher's participation in strengthening Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Titus Corlatean, appreciated the activity and important contribution of the head of the diplomatic mission of the USA in Bucharest, Duane Butcher, to the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of American, reads a press release on Wednesday sent to AGERPRES.

Corlatean on Wednesday received the farewell visit of the US Charge d'affairs ad interim Duane Butcher at the end of his mission in Romania.

'The two interlocutors highlighted the privileged character of the bilateral relations between the two states [...] and they reviewed a series of issues of current interest on the agenda of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA. In this context, they discussed certain aspects related to the need of appointing a new Ambassador of the US in Bucharest, about the inclusion, as soon as possible, of Romania, in the Visa Waiver Programme, considering both its status as a strategic partnership and an EU member state, as well as Romania's candidacy for the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) for 2016,' showed the abovementioned release.

Moreover, the two officials discussed other issues on the regional agenda, related to the Republic of Moldova or the situation in Ukraine.

'Minister Titus Corlatean highlighted how of a great importance are for the Romanian authorities such interconnectivity projects in the gas and electricity fields between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and how essential in ensuring the energy safety of the neighbouring state these projects are, and especially the Ungheni-Iasi gas pipeline to be inaugurated on August 27,' says the release.
