AGERPRES, Thomson Reuters Foundation concluded the second course Social Media and Digital Journalism

The course began on Monday, July 13, was held by an experienced trainer of the British Foundation, John Mastrini, and was carried out in Thessaloniki, Greece.

AGERPRES National News Agency and Thomson Reuters Foundation today, July 17, 2014, concluded the Social Media and Digital Journalism course, devoted to the journalists of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) member agencies.

The main aspects of the digital journalism and social media were explained in detail by John Mastrini, a professional with over 20 years of experience in media projects. Thus, the training represented an extraordinary opportunity for the journalists' knowledge and capacity improvement in these areas.

'There are two sides of Social Media for journalists. One is news gathering, so you have to be across all forms of Social Media because you never know when the next story is going to break on Social Media and that could come on any form of Social Media, so there is a real necessity for professional journalists to be able to manage to Social Media all the time in the areas they are covering, whether it's experts or politicians or celebrities they are covering who might tweet something at any time that will change the news. The other side of it, of course, is the direct to the audience promotion of your stories and actual journalism,' John Mastrini told AGERPRES.

After the course, the trainer with Thomson Reuters Foundation also said that the participants proved a great capacity in working in Social Media in an English setting. 'There's a wide range of experience here. Some people are using Social Media frequently, others not so much, but in general, they were all very good,' Mastrini concludes.
