Vulin: Serbia has reasons to be satisfied with labor law

BELGRADE - Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin has said that changes to the labor law, which the parliament passed on Friday, will help the labor market develop, workers keep their jobs, employers improve their business and make profit.

Vulin told reporters at the Serbian parliament that, taking all this into account, Serbia has reasons to be satisfied with the new labor law.

He said that the government is always ready for dialogue with trade unions and employers, and called on all social partners to behave in line with the fact that the labor law was passed.

Officials of the two representative trade unions - the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions (SSSS) and United Branch Unions 'Independence' (UGS Nezavisnost) left the Social and Economic Council and announced the fight against amendments to the labor law after the Serbian government adopted the bill of amendments without regard for the legal procedure.

After the adoption of the labor law, Vulin said that several reform laws are about to be passed, adding that social partners should work on them together.
Everyone has the right to take a different stance, but both trade unions and employers must look after the workforce, Vulin said.

He said that changes to the law on pension and disability insurance (PIO), which the parliament passed on Friday too, will bring savings of 5.35 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the next ten years, and added that no one's rights will be jeopardized, except for the fact that people will retire somewhat later.
