Vulin announces adoption on trade union, strike laws
LAZAREVAC - Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran Care and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin announced on Monday the adoption of the law on strike and the law on trade unions which should regulate union issues, including trade union prominence.
Addressing reporters in Lazarevac, Vulin said that working groups would be set up soon which will be tasked with drafting the bills that should serve as the code of labour laws.
The minister said that the amended Labour Law which the parliament adopted last week contains a number of provisions which, just like the previous documents of the kind, essentially cover not only labour issues but also trade union matters.
Now we want to adopt a special law on trade unions which will regulate in detail their organisation, prominence and functioning modes, he said.
Pointing to the importance of social dialogue, Vulin said that in addition to employers and government representatives, the Social Economic Council should gather representatives of the most prominent trade unions who truly represent employee rights and interests.
Together with Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic, Vulin attended the celebration of the patron day of miners, Saint Procopius in Barosevac, Belgrade municipality of Lazarevac.
After the celebration, the government officials laid wreaths at the memorial plate honouring miners killed in strikes in the nearby settlement of Rudovci in 1939.
