Advocaat named new head coach of Serbian national team
BELGRADE - Experienced Dutch coach Dick Advocaat takes over at the helm of Serbia's national football team, goal.com reported on Tuesday.
Advocaat, who is replacing the acting head coach Ljubinko Drulovic will remain in charge of Serbia for the next two years, starting from August 1.
He is set to coach the national team until the end of the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France.
Our main goal will be to reach Euro 2016, said Advocaat, adding that Serbia has a strong chance to qualify as for the first time the tournament will be contested by 24 teams instead of 16.
The last major competition for Serbia was the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when the head coach was Radomir Antic.
The 66-year-old Advocaat coached the national teams of South Korea, Belgium, Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and Russia, as well as a number of clubs, most notably Zenit St. Petersburg with whom he won the 2008 UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
