Zajecar Guitar Festival kicks off on Wednesday
BELGRADE - The 48th Guitar Festival in Zajecar, one of the oldest music events of its kind, takes place from July 30 to August 20.
The festival kicks off on Wednesday with the performance of one of the most popular Serbian choirs, Viva Vox. The concert is set to take place at Felix Romuliana, a late Roman archaeological site in eastern Serbia, which has long been the venue of choice for the festival opening ceremonies.
A total of 14 competitors from six countries - Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro - advanced to the festival semifinals.
More than 30 bands, including Prljavo Kazaliste, Kerber, Partibrejkers, YU Grupa, Riblja Corba, Van Gogh, Atomsko Skloniste, Lajko Felix, are scheduled to perform in the non-competitive part of the program.
The guitar festival in Zajecar dates back to the late 1960's when groundbreaking rock bands, inspired by the most popular international performers of the time, first appeared in former Yugoslavia and gained overwhelming popularity among the young.
The festival has so far seen tens of thousands of contestants, while the line-up of the non-competitive part of the event featured such global stars as Steve Lukather, Laibach, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Nightwing, Lance Lopez.
