Ana Ivanovic through to Stanford second round

STANFORD - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic reached the second round of the Stanford WTA tournament early Wednesday by beating Sabine Lisicki of Germany 7-6 (6-2), 6-1.

The Serbian will next face Carol Zhao of Canada, who reached the second round after her opponent, Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer, withdrew from the match in the second set due to injury.

Zhao had a 1-0 lead in the second set after winning the first set 6-2.

The prize money at Stanford totals USD 710,000, with the winner to take home USD 120,000.

Ana Ivanovic is the fifth seed, with Serena Williams of the United States seeded first.
