National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Klaus Iohannis believes the final breakaway of former PNL leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu from all Liberal roots is inevitable, telling the people that a vote for Tariceanu is in fact a vote for Victor Ponta.

'I am realising today that the mirage of subsidies is stronger than the soundness of principles. Given that Mr Calin Popescu Tariceanu insists on walking down the path that brings him even further from Liberalism, his final breakaway from all Liberal roots is inevitable,' Iohannis says in a press release issued on Friday.

He argues that he can only deplore the lack of discernment displayed by a former PNL national leader that allows himself to be trapped in the prime minister's game.

'The Social Democratic Party and his leader Victor Ponta's fear of the grand National Liberal Party and of the presidential candidate of the united Right compels him to use old tricks. There have been previous attempts at disuniting large parties through internal dissidence on the Romanian political stages. Fortunately, the voters are sound and they reject every time such political defects. I am convinced that the same will happen at the end of the current year, when Romanians will elect in a much discerning manner and punish betrayals. To all Romanians of good faith I am saying you should have no doubt that a vote for Calin Popescu Tariceanu is in fact a vote for Victor Ponta,' reads the release. AGERPRES
