PM Ponta: VAT cut for bread successful, to be maintained

Prime Minister Victor Ponta asserted that the VAT cut (from 24 percent to 9 percent) for bread was a successful initiative, and it would be continued.

'The step of cutting the VAT for bread was successful and we will definitely continue it! An important assurance for everyone — we have adopted the VAT reduction for bread products, and it proved to be a good measure, with a positive impact on people, on the economic environment, and for fighting tax evasion!' the prime minister posted on his Facebook account.

Ponta also promised that the Executive will consider 'applying differentiated VAT for other categories of foodstuff, too.'AGERPRES
