Suspect of seven murders allegedly commits suicide in Batman

One of the suspects of an armed attack in which seven villagers were killed in the southeastern province of Batman has allegedly committed suicide while another suspect in the murder has also been detained.

Seven people, including women and children, were killed in an armed attack as they were going to find pasture for their animals in a rural area of Batman late Aug. 2.

One of the suspects, 26-year-old Fevzi Taş, allegedly shot himself at the entrance of the village when locals recognized who he was late Aug. 4. His funeral was scheduled for Aug. 5.

Sultan and Bilal Efe, both 15, İdris Güneş, 17, Sevime Tung, 25, and Sadıya Tung, 65, a 13-year-old whose name has not been disclosed and an imam, who was visiting the village, were among the victims.

Another suspect, who the police have identified as M.T., was captured near the village of Aydınkonak in the Kozluk district.

The gendarmerie have detained two other suspects, M.T. and Y.T., for allegedly helping one of the suspects, the first M.T., while they continue to look for two other suspects the police have identified as S.Ç. and S.T.
