"Body parts collector" arrested in Croatia

SLAVONSKI BROD -- The police in Croatia have a 52-year-old man in custody on suspicion that he owns "a collection of human body parts."

The Zagreb-based daily Jutarnji List writes that the man is a resident of the town of Slavonski Brod, and that "the bulk of his bizarre collection is made up of male genitals."

According to the same source, he is facing charges of "violating the peace of the dead."

Officials were also quoted as saying that because of the nature of the case, they would "not publish any more details," while police spokesperson Kata Nujić revealed that they acted after receiving a tipoff that "jars have been found most likely containing human body parts."

Unofficial reports said that the suspect took the organs from the pathology department of the general hospital in Slavonski Brod, where, the Hina news agency reported quoting reliable sources, he worked as a technician.

The hospital did not wish to make any comment, while reports noted that the suspect was suspended a while ago "for violations of work ethics."
